Rihanna's Grammy History: Fashion Recap

In honor of the 55th annual Grammy Awards airing tomorrow, we have decided to give you an extremely detailed look into what Rihanna has worn over the years to the Grammys and Pre-Grammy events:

Grammys ∞ 2012

Rihanna arrived in a stunning ensemble she helped design! She took to the Grammys carpet in a black plunging neckline, halter style gown with a deep back and center-front designed by Giorgio Armani. You may remember that she began designing with the brand for their jean line. Watch the ad (here). When asked about her dress by Ryan Seacrest, she explained;

“I wanted something a little bit Michelle Pfeiffer from Scarface, simple and sexy but a little gangster at the same time”

She also wore body chains by Jacquie Aiche, and she carried a gold clutch by Jimmy Choo. Rihanna and Alicia Keys wore the same ‘Bis Un Bout’ pumps designed by Christian Louboutin, to the ceremony. Her Make-Up Artist Mylah Morales, used La Mer Gel creme, Armani foundation and the Giorgio Armani Mascara Eyes to complete her look.

Rihanna performed “Princess of China” with Coldplay and her own hit, “We Found Love”. For the performance she wore a cropped version of Norma Kamali’s Bodysuit along with custom-made shorts from designer Adam Selman. She completed the look with a Silver David Yurman Chunky Chain Necklace and Theyskens’ Theory Combat Boots. She went home with a Grammy for “Best Rap/Sung Collaboration with Kanye West in “All of the Lights”.

She attended Roc Nation’s Pre-Grammy Brunch Event wearing a basket-print strapless bustier, from Bottega Veneta’s Resort 2012 Collection. She paired this look with black Christian Louboutin Pigalle Pumps. And what better way to wear Louboutins then to wear a pair designed by Christian himself?! As a gift, Christian signed the pair she wore.

Grammys ∞ 2011

Rihanna attended the Grammys in 2011, wearing a serious gown by Jean Paul Gaultier! She had this to say when asked about her sheer gown by this amazing designer:

“He’s one of my favorite designers, I mean he has been around for so long and he has inspired a lot of designers I like and wear so I love wearing his dresses, anything he makes, but he makes lovely red carpet dresses”

Rihanna is all about fashion and when she sees something she wants, she goes for it! Snatching this gown ‘right off the runway’ of his Spring Couture Collection she said. Rihanna completed her look with Christian Louboutin Pigalle Plato Pumps.

Rihanna changed from one amazing gown to yet another when taking to the Grammys stage to perform. She sang her track entitled “Love the Way You Lie” with Eminem (and Adam Levine on piano) in a very dramatic gown from Christian Dior’s Fall 2010 Couture Collection. This black dress features a yellow petal print underskirt that has a rise & fall hemline. She performed once more during the ceremony, with Drake for her smash, “What’s My Name”. Rihanna won a Grammy for “Best Dance Recording” for her hit single, “Only Girl (In the World)”.

Rihanna attended the Gucci and RocNation Pre-Grammy Brunch at the Soho House in Los Angeles, California wearing a $1,940.00 cream-colored Fendi dress. She coupled this look with a $995.00 pair of nude Christian Louboutin “Lucifer Bow” Stilettos that feature a 5 inch heel with spike detailing.

Grammys ∞ 2010

Rihanna made a no-less than STUNNING return to the 2010 Grammys red carpet! She commanded attention in a gown from Elie Saab’s Fall 2009 Couture Collection. This dress featured a high white neck with an open back. The bodice is gathered at the hips with chiffon appliqué and feather detailing to add a unique touch & shape to her gown. Not to be overlooked is Rihanna’s haircut! As one who wears a number of fauxhawks myself, I was immediately in LOVE with this cut. Rihanna finished off her look with a bracelet and earrings from Neil Lane, an 18K White Gold ring from Yvel set in Black Diamonds and Austalian South Sea Baroque Pearls, along with rings from Diamond in the Rough. She also wore “Lance” sandals by Jimmy Choo.

Although Rihanna did not perform at the 2010 Grammys, she still went home a winner, picking up the Grammy for “Best Rap/Sung Collaboration” with Jay-Z & Kanye West for “Run This Town”. She graced the stage with Jay and Julez (Solange’s son), to accept her award.

Rihanna wowed all in attendance once again, during Clive Davis’ Pre-Grammy Gala. For this event, she went with a one-shouldered cocktail dress from Viktor and Rolf’s Spring 2010 Collection. Rihanna’s pastel look featured a black bodice with layers of asymmetrical jutting in jade and pastel pink. Mylah Morales showed off her talents at this event too, using products from NARS Spring 2010 Collection. She finished her look with Declic Pumps from Christian Louboutin and Georgina Chapman for Garrard Earrings.

Just when you thought Rihanna couldn’t possibly wow us anymore in 2010, she showed up to another Pre-Grammy event! She attended L.A. Reid’s Pre-Grammy Dinner hosted by Jay-Z. She looked absolutely stunning in Julien MacDonald’s Crystal Pagoda Dress. Singer Nicole Scherzinger wore this same dress during her X Factor promotional shoot in 2011.

Grammys ∞ 2009

Although Rihanna didn’t attend the 2009 Grammys ceremony, she did attend a couple of Pre-Grammy events. The first event was Verizon and Blackberry’s Pre-Grammy Party held at Boulevard 3 in LA. Rihanna looked great in her blue body-con halter dress designed by Preen. The dress featured a peplum at the waist along with an exposed zipper. She accessorized with Strappy Sandals from Rodarte for Nicholas Kirkwood’s Spring 2009 Collection and jewelry from Hellmuth Oscar. Her jewelry consisted of Hellmuth’s Croco Cuff, Necklace, and his Black & White Ring and Earrings.

Rihanna performed during this event as well! She took to the stage in a one-sleeved sparkling number from Balmain’s Spring 2009 Collection. She topped off this look with a creatively designed hat and Alexander McQueen Heart Peep-Toe Pumps.

The next day, Rihanna attended Clive Davis’ annual Grammy party in Hollywood, California. For the red carpet of the event, she worked in more shades of blue with Gucci’s Spring 2009 Strapless Chiffon Maxi Dress. She complimented this look with Lucy Platform Sandals that were also from Gucci. This look was a fitting choice since at that time, Rihanna was the fashion label’s star ambassador. She also wore Hellmuth Oscar’s Croco Gold & Diamond Cuff and Irene Neuwirth Braided Hoop Earrings.

Grammys ∞ 2008

Rihanna graced the Grammys red carpet in 2008 in my favorite color, blue! This cute ensemble is from Zac Posen’s Spring 2008 Collection. The cobalt-colored corseted dress with a feather-trimmed bottom worked extremely well for Rihanna’s height and skin complexion. Rihanna opted for Jimmy Choo’s “Adora” heels and Chopard jewels to top off her look.

She took to the Grammys stage to perform her number one hits, “Umbrella” and “Don’t Stop the Music” in another look from this same collection that she jazzed up with a corset.

What made this night EXTREMELY special for Rihanna was winning her very first Grammy. She won the award for “Best Rap/Sung Collaboration” for “Umbrella” featuring Jay-Z. You may remember Rihanna “shushing” Jay-Z during her acceptance speech, have you ever wondered WHY she did that? Here’s what she had to say:

“He is silly (she laughs), oh my gosh! He was tryna translate because he has this ongoing joke about people not being able to understand me because of my accent. So that’s what he was doing, “translating”… It was all good fun”

Rihanna also attended Clive Davis’ Annual Pre-Grammy Event. She arrived on the red carpet of this event wearing an Egyptian-inspired full length gown from Mara Hoffman’s Fall 2008 Collection. She again wore another look from Mara at the Brit Awards that following month.

Grammys ∞ 2007

Rihanna attended her very first Grammys ceremony in 2007. She premiered on the red carpet wearing a green cut-out gown designed by Roberto Cavalli. This dress was featured in his Spring 2007 Collection. Rihanna had the privilege of announcing Ludacris, Mary J. Blige, and Earth, Wind, & Fire’s performance of “Runaway Love” that night with David Spade.

Rihanna attended her first Clive Davis’ Pre-Grammy Party wearing a sexy rose-colored v-neck bandage dress. This dress was designed by Herve Leger, a designer whom Rihanna continues to wear throughout her career. Actress Katherine Heigl wore this same dress on the cover of Cosmopolitan’s February 2008 Issue. Give it a look see (here) courtesy of Just Jared.
