Rihanna released her 7th album, Unapologetic, on November 19th of last year. Seven seems to be her lucky number, considering the fact that she just snagged her SEVENTH Grammy. Get your fix of what went down on Grammy night by way of fashion, photos, friends, performances, and videos (here). The shoot for this album featured stylings by Mel Ottenberg, and art direction by Ciarra Pardo. Her make up was done by Mylah Morales and her nails were done by Kimmie Kyees. Rihanna’s hair was done by Yusef and Ursula Stephen. The photos in this shoot were taken by Melissa Forde for MTF Photography.
Acne | Citizens of Humanity | Chloe Sevigny
Rihanna here wore a cropped version of a sweater designed by Acne. The “College Heart” maroon cotton fleece sweatshirt has the word ‘HEART’ printed on the front in golden letters. The sweatshirt features a rounded ribbed neckline, cuffs and a bended hem. This item is currently unavailable on Acne’s website, but keep checking back for when that changes.
You may remember the above Candids of Rihanna leaving a tattoo parlor & a pizzeria in London wearing the outfit featured in this shoot. She coupled her sweatshirt with jeans designed by Citizens of Humanity. The type of skinnies she rocked are called the “Avedon Slick Skinny Jean” in the color axel. Rihanna wore black “Mary Ellen” boots designed by Chloe Sevigny. The exact boot she wore is sold out currently but you can keep checking the link below in the event of a re-stock. She also wore these same boots with another outfit in this shoot. She rounded out her look with Gucci’s limited edition USA GG Flag Collection Boston Bag.
In this photo Rihanna wore a very unique looking cap. This print grosgrain lined pony boy cap features a pony hair and leopard print brim. Opening Ceremony summarizes the product this way:
“Started by childhood friends and lifelong hat-lovers Molly Yestadt and Jane Pincus in 2008, Yestadt Millinery produces its caps on New York’s Lower East Side. This piece, created specially for Opening Ceremony, pairs a leopard-print pony hair brim with a super-saturated, super cool Sgt. Pepper-style print.”

Huf: Plantlife Collection
Rihanna was photographed above wearing a ‘High Times’ bucket hat designed by Huf. Huf is a streetwear brand founded by Keith Hufnagel. His site describes the brand by saying:
“Made by skateboarders, for skateboarders, HUF represents not only a more refined and forward-thinking skateboard brand, but also any individual inspired by the vast array of countercultures that parallel skateboard mentality. Do not settle for the status quo. Go out and create your own future – do it yourself, do it in style.”
Rihanna took to Instagram back in September showing off not only this hat but also socks designed by Huf. She captioned the photo: “#socklife @mforde11 n the rear ground”
Komakino | Chloe Sevigny | Versace
Rihanna was shot wearing this cool short sleeved camouflage jacket and black bra and shorts. She accompanied this look with the Mary Ellen boots designed by Chloe Sevigny for Opening Ceremony that was mentioned earlier in this post. She also graced the cover of Billboard’s December 2012 Issue in this same look. Rihanna accessorized with a necklace by Versace, that features the brands signature Medusa head. Rapper Tyga has a much larger chain that features this same head that was delivered by Jason of Beverly Hills. Jason has done work for Rihanna as well.
I got to speak with Rihanna’s stylist, Mel Ottenberg to get the scoop on this much sought after jacket. He informed me that he couldn’t find this jacket and it was not possible to attain this piece again. What’s interesting though is that they got Rihanna’s camo jacket from Japan! During the Battleship Premiere in Tokyo they picked up this little number for her to wear.
I finally found the piece and Mel Ottenberg confirmed that it was indeed the brand she wore. Rihanna is wearing a camouflage top and short bottoms from Komakino’s Spring/Summer 2012 Collection. Take a look at the set (here). As an alternative, if you would like to get a camouflage jacket like Rihanna’s you can purchase the one she wore most recently (here) from Coal n Terry Vintage, or another camo jacket she has worn (here) from Babylon Cartel. You can also peruse Opening Ceremony’s pieces from the brand (here).
Boy London | Céline
In this outtake from the Unapologetic album shoot, Rihanna was photographed visiting a gun range. You may remember her Instagram post from that occasion where she said, “Bad gals do it well! We got our guns in the muthafuckin air” (here). Rihanna is wearing a cropped t-shirt and sunglasses from Boy London. She is also wearing her 12SS Céline Silver ID Choker. Mel Ottenberg along with his assistant Rebecca Grice, gave me the exclusive on this look! “Rihanna’s sunglasses are 80’s vintage”, revealed Mel. He got them in Tokyo from a store called DOG. Rebecca explained that Rihanna’s cropped tee is also vintage. She got the top from a vintage dealer, Brian Procell.
Rihanna is of course no stranger to the Boy London brand. She wore different pieces on several occasions in 2012. Not only that, but when she debuted a head-to-toe look from the brand in May during an appearance on the Jonathan Ross show (here), she caused a e-commerce frenzy! Immediately after, the brand’s top stockist, Selfridges saw a 45% increase in sales! What a trendsetter!
Dita | Mel Ottenberg
In another outtake from this shoot, Rihanna sports a pair of sunglasses from Dita eyewear. To be specific, she is wearing Dita’s Spring 2013 “Magnifique” Sunglasses! She wore these several times throughout September last year. You can purchase these oversized cat eye sunglasses for $350 at Barney’s and Shop Bop. (store titles are clickable)
Quite naturally, your eyes probably went straight to the fishnet tank top Rihanna is wearing. Lots of pieces used in this shoot were from her stylist, some were “on the fly”, as Mel put it. But, he and his assistant revealed to me that this fishnet top is vintage! If you’re bold enough to recreate this look, a great fishnet tank can be found in Yves Saint Laurent’s Spring/Summer 2012 Collection. His knitted fishnet tank top will definitely give you a Rih-inspired look, especially since she’s a big fan of this designer!

The last piece, is an item from the back of the Unapologetic album. Here in this photo Rihanna wears a custom made jacket by DNA. The acronym stands for, “Designs by Noel Austin”. On his site, they state their mission:
“DNA’s mission is to create something with attitude; something people remember and are inspired by. When people wear DNA’s clothes, they feel inspired by them. To change, to inspire, and even offend in order to push people’s limits of what they understand. It may scare you but donning one of Noel Austin’s creation WILL change you. This is more than fashion, more than image, it’s a lifestyle.”
