Rated R Era Fashion Recap
For this week’s installment of Vintage RiRi I’ve decided to give you a detailed look into Rihanna’s fashion choices for her Rated R Album Booklet, Music Videos, Appearances, and Photoshoots. Lets get started:
Rihanna unleashed the masterpiece formally known as Rated R, in November of 2009. She kicked off the era with a powerful collaboration with Hip-Hop powerhouses Jay-Z and Kanye West. The video for “Run This Town” debuted on August 20th 2009 and was directed by Anthony Mandler.
He’s (Jay-Z) a mentor and a friend he’s always guiding me and giving me advice. He’s definitely always there. No matter what –Rihanna
In the opening scene of the video, Rihanna wears a military- inspired sleeveless hoodie with a long tail in the back and shoulder epaulets. This hoodie was designed by Jeremy Scott in collaboration with Adidas for his Spring/Summer 2010 Collection.
In this scene from the video, Rihanna wears sunglasses from A-Morir. Her “Barracuda” sunglasses are completely covered in hand-painted and hand-distressed pyramid studs. Here Rihanna also wears a pair of stunning leather “Gasolina” Over-the-Knee Boots from Christian Louboutin.
Rihanna did an extreme couture supplement photoshoot taken by Steven Klein for Italian Vogue that surfaced around August of 2009. This very edgy shoot consisted of several pieces from Valentino’s 2009 Fall Couture Collection along with a few choice looks from the 2009 Fall Couture Collections of Giorgio Armani, Chanel, Christian Dior, Givenchy and more.
Fashion is fearless. Fashion
should be fun, enjoyable and adventurous ..you should be able to take risks without having to worry about what people think if it makes you happy –Rihanna
