Rihanna performs on The Today Show on May 27, 2011 as Toyota’s Summer Concert Series kickoff artist:
In May of 2011, Rihanna took center stage on The Today Show as part of Toyota’s Summer Series Concerts. She set the precedent for this series of concerts by performing her hits, “Only Girl (In the World)“, “California King Bed“, “S&M” , and “What’s My Name from her smash album, LOUD. Let’s discuss her outfit on this occasion.
Rihanna began her look with a blue and black cropped top. Being that blue is my favorite color, this outfit is on the top of my list of favorites from Rihanna.
This spliced mid-drift top was designed by Norma Kamali. This year, Rihanna wore a camouflage coat from this designer (here). This cropped top, however, features extra long sleeves with thumbnail holes.
This same top was worn by Anna Kournikova on the cover of the November 2011 issue of Women’s Health magazine (here). This top retailed at $525 at Opening Ceremony (here), but has since sold out. Let’s backtrack for a moment and discuss this coat that Rihanna wore for a bit on top of her Norma Kamali top. This long ponyskin trench coat was designed by Burberry.
Rihanna then wore cashmere briefs from Louis Vuitton’s Fall 2011 Collection. These briefs were also worn by Gwyneth Paltrow on the cover of ELLE magazine (here), Heidi Klum on the cover of Harper’s Bazaar (here), and by Kim Kardashian inside her spread in, In Style magazine (here), just to name a few.
Rihanna finished her look with a pair of lace up booties designed by Giuseppe Zanotti. She accessorized with jewelry from House of Lavande. This is a brand she continued to wear, from her V Festival performances to her 2012 performance at Hackney.
