SHE x Matthew Williamson
Rihanna dazzles in designs by Matthew Williamson:
When Rihanna finds a designer she likes you’ll often notice that she will continue to wear their pieces year after year. Matthew Williamson is no exception to the rule. Beginning in 2007, Rihanna was spotted on a number of occasions in his designs — from blouses to accessories. In this week’s installment of Vintage RiRi, we’ll be giving you the rundown on all of the pieces she’s worn from this particular designer.
MATTHEW WILLIAMSON is a unique success story within the British fashion industry. Matthew started out as a fashion graduate in 1994. Since then, he has opened his own store in London’s Mayfair and his collections are worn by international celebrity clients. The luxury fashion house, ‘Matthew Williamson’, was founded in February 1997 by Williamson and Joseph Velosa.
Rihanna paid a visit to TRL Studios in New York on May 10th, 2007. She made an appearance in a $750.00 Matthew Williamson Spring 2007 Spectrum Sequined Top. She paired her colorful top with Kova and T Sandy Skinny Jeans in the ‘Rise’ rinse. On her feet, she sported Michael Kors’ Python Pumps. You can check out Rihanna’s TRL outfit that she wore just a month later (here) from one of our previous posts.
Rihanna attended Matthew Williamson’s Fall 2008 presentation during fashion week on February 5th 2008, wearing none other then Matthew Williamson. On this same day she attended the launch of her exclusive line of umbrellas courtesy of Macy’s. In addition, Rihanna wore an orange pair of ‘Som’ Christian Louboutin heels that retail for $560.00. She carried a unique black day clutch lined with yellow, bright blue and magenta. Her Heather Convertible Flap Bag is by Kooba. Rihanna enjoyed some quality time with her brother, Rajad Fenty on August 21st, 2008. She went shopping on Melrose Ave as well, wearing a Butterfly Print Vest designed by Matthew Williamson. She complimented this piece with black Marc Jacobs shorts and Gucci (Model GG 3016/s) Sunglasses. Rihanna finished her look with Spring 2008 Balenciaga Gladiator Boots. She toted a Givenchy East West Military Hobo Bag.
Rihanna grabbed lunch at Da Silvano in New York on May 17th, 2009. On this occasion, she wore a couple of accessories from Matthew Williamson. Her pieces from Matthew included a pair of his Plastic Green Aviator Sunglasses and a Spring 2009 Patterned Scarf. The rest of her outfit consisted of Hannah Marshall’s Leather Blazer, a Demi-Sheer Helmut Lang Marble Print Tank, Siwy Denim’s Hannah Cropped Jeans in the ‘Candescence’ wash, and Jimmy Choo Biker Leather Flat Boots. Her boots are rugged with distressed details and buckled straps on the front and shaft. We previously covered these boots (here) along with several other looks spotlighting designer, Betsey Johnson. She also carried a Large Python Roman Bag designed by Devi Kroell.
Just days later, on May 22nd 2009, Rihanna was spotted out shopping in Soho, New York wearing Matthew Williamson’s Spring 2009 Gathered Leather Coat. Rihanna’s accessories included a $649.00 silver vermilion bracelet from Antonio Palladino. We revealed this bracelet in last week’s Vintage RiRi post. Rihanna completed this look with black Christian Louboutin Piros Boots. The suede boots with a 0.5mm heel and almond toe retailed at $1,275.00.
Rihanna spent Christmas weekend during the 2009 year in Barbados. While there, she enjoyed a day on the beach wearing a floral jacket from Matthew Williamson’s Spring 2009 Collection. Underneath it, she donned a Johnny Vincent Caliente Pink Ruffle Bikini. She also wore Black Spring 2009 City Apache Fringe Sandals designed by Giuseppe Zanotti for Balmain. Rihanna wore these sandals on a number of occasions in 2009. You can check out all of the looks she paired them with (here), from our post featuring the Parisian fashion label, Balmain.
Rihanna brought in 2012 on New Years’ Eve at Miami’s LIV Nightclub alongside the likes of Lil’ Wayne and DMX. During the event, in which she was DJ for the night, she wore more from Matthew Williamson. Here, she wore his $2,675.00 Rainbow Crochet-Appliquéd Lace and Satin Dress.
